Rubel Hossain named Bangladesh T20 WC squad

There were no real surprises in the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup as the selectors announced on Thursday (September 9). Veteran pacer Rubel Hossain named Bangladesh as T20 WC squad.

Rubel is on the team :-

Rubel Hossain was not considered for the home series against New Zealand present in the team. The 31-year-old pacer. The national team in New Zealand in April this year.

Mahmudullah will guide Bangladesh to the 2021 T20 World Cup, with all of their key players in contention with Tamim Iqbal, who recently opted out of the tournament.

There were no real surprises in the 15-man squad. And The selectors clearly focusing on recent performances. The left-hander managed to score just 28 runs in five innings against Australia and hasn’t featured against New Zealand in the first four games.

Rubel and Aminul included in reserve players :-

Taijul Islam and Mosaddek Hossain missed out on two big names. None of them have remained steady in T20Is in the recent past.

Mahmudullah will guide a strong side that won series wins over Australia and New Zealand on home soil.

Soumya Sarkar’s recent poor form against Australia had no bearing as he managed to retain his place in the absence of Tamim Iqbal, who withdrew from the showpiece event.

The left-hander could only manage 28 runs in five innings against Australia and did not play in the first four matches against New Zealand.

From the 19-man squad selected to play in New Zealand, the selectors have dropped four players without adding any more. Apart from Rubel Hossain, the trio of Mosaddek Hossain, Taijul Islam and Aminul Islam have been left out.

Mohammad Mithun not considered :-

Legspinner Aminul has played seven T20 matches. The standby players included in Rubel. Mohammad Mithun, who was dropped after the Australia series, was not considered.

Bangladesh are in Group B along with Oman, Papua New Guinea and Scotland and will qualify for the Super 12 stages if they finish in the top two places in their group. They will take on Scotland in their first match on the opening day of the tournament on 17 October.
