Sherfane Rutherford went on a six-hitting spree to help St Kitts and Nevis Patriots maintain their unbeaten start in CPL 2021. Because they took another win to make it three out of three. At one point it did not appear that the home team needed the services of Rutherford to win. Chasing a total of 167 against Guyana Amazon Warriors, he got off to a decent start with Evin Lewis and Devon Thomas.

The Trick to Use Mohammad Hafeez With the New Ball Against Lewis Also Didn’t work:

13 runs came off the opening over and the move to use Mohammad Hafeez with the new ball against Lewis didn’t work as he hit the veteran for a boundary and a six. Even though Hafeez made a brilliant comeback, conceding just two runs in his next over. The Patriots made a recovery and scored a total of 49 in the powerplay to lay the foundation. However, Imran Tahir turned the team’s stand by hitting two fours in two overs.

Lewis first made a googly mistake and Tahir bowled another foul to breach Thomas’ defence. and left the Patriots at 77/3 after 11 overs. Between these two dismissals, foreign recruit Asif Ali hit a ball to the side from inside. Which the ‘keeper’ caught. Patriots were shocked by losing three wickets in 12 balls. But Sherfane Rutherford and Dwayne Bravo steadied the ship. He hit a six each in six balls to go against the spinners before Sherfane pulled himself out.

Sherfane Rutherford was Particularly Serious:

Sherfane Rutherford in particular was very serious. Because he made sure he hit at least one six in four straight overs to take away any pressure. Even though Bravo found a long-on fielder at one stage in the last over. Leaving his side 18 for 9, Sherfane Rutherford hit Naveen-ul-Haq for back-to-back sixes to bring the equation down to 4 for 6. Fabian Allen completed the formalities.

Earlier in the evening, a half-century from Hafeez didn’t help. As he batted through the innings to score almost 70 runs. Hafeez hit a four each in the opening two overs of the Warriors’ innings. But in the powerplay till the end, he scored only 24 runs in 25 balls. Despite that his team did not lose a single wicket. Much needed impetus was provided by Shimron Hetmyer after he was hit in his opening over by Fabian Allen to dismiss Chanderpaul Hemraj.

Hafeez Gave Another Big Blow to Bravo:

Hetmyer was serious against spin. As he took an over mid-wicket to help the Warriors reach the halfway mark of 77/1. Hafeez eventually went ahead and scored a fifty off 46 balls. But Hetmyer’s scintillating innings helped the run rate cross 8. He included Allen in a run of 39 runs in four balls with a four and a six.

And in the next over, another big blow to Bravo. Eventually, he scored a half-century off just 30 balls. Which was in contrast to Hafeez’s innings at the other end. Paul van Meeckeren then dismissed two well-set batsmen in successive deliveries at just the right time. Due to which only 17 runs were added in the last two overs.

Brief Scores: Guyana Amazon Warriors 166/3 in 20 overs (Mohammed Hafeez 70, Shimron Hetmyer 52; Paul van Meeckeren 2-23) lost to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots 168/4 in 19.2 overs (Sherfen Rutherford 59*, Devon Thomas 31) ; Imran Tahir 2-26) by six wickets
