SA vs WI: South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been released from the team ahead of the second Test against the West Indies. The pacer had experienced a minor groin problem during the first Test in Centurion. He has been kept out of the second game as a precautionary measure.
SA vs WI: Nortje was one of four SA fast bowlers –
Nortje picked up a fever in the first innings at Centurion and was one of four South African fast bowlers who were fielded in that game. With the injury, the home side only have three fast bowlers in the squad – Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen as South Africa have not named a replacement.
They had played Senuran Muthusamy as a spin-bowling all-rounder in that fixture, but now have to choose between Keshav Maharaj and Simon Hammer for an additional spinner.
SA vs WI: West Indies series was Langeveldt’s last series –
Bowling coach Charl Langeveldt was also dropped from the South African team due to family reasons. The West Indies series was Langeveldt’s last. He was appointed as the bowling coach of IPL franchise Punjab Kings. Thus the recently concluded Centurion game turned out to be his last stint as bowling coach of the South African Test team.
