Saqib will make his return to competitive action on England Lions tour of Sri Lanka

Saqib Mahmood will return to competitive action on the white-ball leg of England Lions’ tour of Sri Lanka in February after a stress fracture in his back that ruled him out of the 2022 domestic international season.

Saqib took six wickets at 22.83 in his two matches –

Mahmood impressed in England’s tour of the Caribbean in early 2022, where he made his Test debut and took six wickets at 22.83 in his two matches. However, he has not played since his lone County Championship fixture for Lancashire against Gloucestershire in May.

However, he was part of a fast bowler rehab program in the United Arab Emirates in October. As was his teammate Brydon Carse. He returned to the white-ball team after suffering a toe injury during last summer’s ODI series against South Africa.

Matt Fisher made his Test debut with Saqib –

Yorkshire pacer Matt Fisher. He made his Test debut alongside Saqib Mahmood in Barbados in March. He is one of four players to have been named for both the red- and white-ball Tests. Somerset captain Tom Abel, Lancashire left-arm spinner Tom Hartley and prolific Essex seamer Sam Cooke also figure in both the 16-man squad.
