Scott Boland Wins Top Four in Victoria

Scott Boland four-wicket haul has helped put Victoria in a commanding position at the halfway point of the Sheffield Shield clash with New South Wales on a bowler-friendly surface at Sydney’s Drummoyne Oval.

New South Wales were bundled out for 151 on the second day. Victoria opener Marcus Harris continued to advance his Ashes affair with an unbeaten 41 at the stumps. As Victoria took a 123-run lead while retaining nine second innings wickets, there were two days left to play.

The Blues started the day well with skipper Kurtis Patterson and nightwatchman Harry Conway disappointing the visitors in a total of 46 runs in the stands. Before that Conway faced 87 balls for 20 runs. But the Blues’ innings came to a halt as Jason Sangha fell off 15 balls. Duck, brilliantly caught in the street by Jono Merlo off Will Sutherland.

Jack Edwards Stranded on an Unbeaten 29 as the Last Five Wickets Fell for Just 19 Runs

The tail of the Blues offered little resistance, with Jack Edwards stranded on an unbeaten 29 as the last five wickets fell for just 19 runs. Mitchell Perry and John Holland took two wickets each, while Boland took 4 for 34 in the last two.

Victoria suffered a loss as she opened her second innings when James Seymour took a brilliant catch on the leg side by Peter Neville of Trent Copeland. But Harris and Peter Handscomb then saw Victoria stumping with an unbeaten 53-run partnership.

Harris scored an unbeaten 41 and bowled a delivery between first and second slip off Nathan Lyon. But he also sported some fluent drive on the surface. Those were difficult to score on. Handscomb scored an unbeaten 26 to give Victoria a chance to take a match-winning lead on the third day.
