In the Asia Cup 2022, the Indian team started its campaign with a win against Pakistan. The hero of this victory of the Indian team was Ravindra Jadeja with Hardik Pandya, who came at number 4 and played an important innings of 35 runs. Rohit Sharma’s decision in the presence of batsmen like Suryakumar and Hardik Pandya was beyond the comprehension of some people, but now Sanjay Majrekar has explained why the team management took this decision. Manjrekar also said that it was not a gamble but a well thought out strategy.

Speaking to Sports18, Sanjay Manjrekar said ‘Yes. It was a great move and I loved it. I don’t think it was a gamble. It was not a wild card as Pakistan was bowling to two spinners Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab (a leg spinner and a left arm spinner). There was turn on the pitch so it was justified that the spinners would bowl a little longer and Babar did the same. The arrival of the left-handed batsman brought pressure on the spinners. So the team management’s decision to bat Ravindra Jadeja up was the right one.

Performance of Ravindra Jadeja has improved a lot

Ravindra Jadeja’s performance in limited overs cricket has improved a lot since 2019. Manjrekar says that if this left-handed player can contribute to such a team. Then in future the team can consider feeding him upstairs.
