Shafali Verma Trains Against Bowlers for the Short-Ball Game

Two Years into international cricket, 17-year-old Shafali Verma has been training against bowlers for the short-ball game. Shafali Verma is well knowning for her desire to continuously improve and her immediate focus is to change her short-ball game against fast bowlers is on.

The Most Explosive Opening Pair :-

Apart from making her debut in India at the age of 15, Shafali has come a long way in the last 24 months and, along with Smriti Mandhana, has one of the most explosive opening pairs in women’s cricket.

Shafali said, “It feels good that I am able to complete two years in international cricket but there is a long way to go. I know the areas of my game in which I am expecting to be good. And one of them is short playing ball.”

told PTI after being designated a Hyundai brand ambassador. “The coaches have also told me to play according to the ball and I will continue to do so. I will never be changing my game.”

At the time of the England and Australia series, Shafali was seen running back from short deliveries and this approach gave her mixed returns. The academy coaches are asking him to play short ball on cemented, astroturf, and normal wickets. And, apart from interacting with the men at high speed, Shafali is also facing throwdowns.

Shafali, who is also working on her fitness, said, “I will not go back that much going forward. You will see me shuffling a lot around the crease and playing according to the ability of the ball.”

Her coach Kumar feels that Shafali will be good only with time and experience. “We must not forget that she is still 17. Her dream Test debut shows that she has the technology she needs to succeed at the highest level.

“In the shorter formats, where there is scoreboard pressure, you need to be really quick with your thinking and this is where she needs to improve a little bit. As she plays for India, you see her. Will only see it get better.”

Mandhana’s World Cup Target :-

Smriti Mandhana, who was designated as the Hyundai ambassador along with Shafali, Jemima Rodrigues, and Tania Bhatia, said she would like to add more consistency to her batting at the Women’s ODI World Cup in New Zealand in March.

“Post-Covid [imposed break from cricket], it was difficult to find momentum as I was playing international cricket for an extra year and a half,” Mandhana told PTI. “It took some time to come to glory but the last two series [England and Australia] have been good but there is definitely room for improvement.

“I’m really happy with the way I’m timing the ball… [but] as a batsman you have to be selfish to be more consistent and that’s something I want to work on, closing the game as a rule made a particularly tight finish.

The Looking Forward To Working On It :-

“It’s something that we all know we expect to be working on because it will help us in the World Cup.”

India has lost the ODI series to South Africa, England, and Australia since the March extravaganza but Smriti Mandhana feels the team has got the best of preparation for the World Cup. India will also play New Zealand before the World Cup.

“The last year has been really important for us and especially in England and Australia. Cup. We have learned a lot in the last two series.”

“The Australia series was good, although the conclusions didn’t go well for us. Almost all the matches were decided in the last over and those were the matches we could have won or lost. We were capable of getting over 250 in two out of three. Sports. I’ll take all the positivity from that. I’ve learned a lot in Australia as well.”
