Bangladesh’s biggest cricket star Shakib Al Hasan is again embroiled in controversy as his country’s cricket board has decided to investigate his recent social media posts in support of the betting company. In 2019, the International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a one-year ban on Shakib for not reporting a corrupt offer from an Indian bookie.

Promoting or supporting any form of betting activity is prohibited according to the current Bangladesh rules. According to a Cricbuzz report, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will investigate the all-rounder’s recent social media post announcing his partnership with a company called “BetWinner News”.

BCB president Nazmul Hassan said Shakib Al Hasan would be serve a show cause notice. Shakib Al Hasan has taken over 12,000 runs and around 650 wickets in nearly 400 international cricket matches. Najmul said, “There are two things. There is no possibility of taking the first permission as we will not give such permission. We will not allow anything related to betting. It means they didn’t ask us to give permission. Secondly, we want to know whether they have signed the agreement or not.

The BCB met on Thursday in which it decided to investigate Shakib Al Hasan’s social media posts. Najmul said, “This issue raised in the meeting and we said how can this happen because it is impossible. If this has happened then you have to ask them immediately. Issue notice to them and ask how all this happened as the board does not allow it. It is related to betting and we will not allow it.”
