Bangladesh fast bowling coach Allan Donald said on Wednesday (December 21) that the hosts are expecting Shakib Al Hasan to open the bowling in the second Test against India.
Nasum Ahmed as Shakib Al Hasan’s back-up
It was a much-needed boost for Bangladesh as Shakib only managed 12 overs in the first innings of the first Test after injuring his ribs during the second ODI in Dhaka.
Bangladesh called up left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed as Shakib’s back-up, and for the opening Test, head coach Russell Domingo indicated that Shakib could play purely as a batsman in the second match.
Shakib’s inability to bowl would have forced the hosts to make some changes in their playing XI to accommodate the three spinners.

Donald told reporters –
“Shakib is fine, he will bowl. He was injured and battered in the ODI here, but he has got through it. He is available for selection and available to bowl.”Donald, however, cleared the air on the eve of the game.
He said – “Any selectors here? (laughs) If I am talking outside the room a bit, it will be the same three spinners and also welcome Taskin and Khaled. Sorry to the selectors, but I am out of the room. Talking. Bit. I can see that happening. The good news is Shakib is ready to go. Looking at the pitch, I think he’ll come into play.”
