Shane Bond will join New Zealand’s coaching setup for the T20I and T20 World Cup in India, New Zealand Cricket announced, along with former pacer head coach Gary Stead, batting coach Luke Ronchi and bowling coach Shane Jurgensen.
Bond has a lot of experience working as a coach for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League, Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, New Zealand A, and the women’s team. “Shane has been in our environment before, understands what we’re about,” Stead said.
“Being in the United Arab Emirates (along with the IPL) just before the T20 World Cup…he will bring some tactical insight into what’s happening in the competition. He especially works around the bowlers. Developing their plans with spin and fast bowlers and in tournaments that go very fast – hence the need to stay one step ahead of the other teams.
“Shane has been working with New Zealand players for a long time and he has been in our recent camps, so it was nice of him to reintroduce himself to our guys. They are held in high esteem and I know they will bring a lot of knowledge. And good opinion for the group.”
New Zealand’s coaching setup will include Shane Bond in the T20 World Cup, so New Zealand is placed in Group 2 along with India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the two qualifying teams for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The tournament will be played from October 17 to October 17. October 14. November in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
