Sheffield Shield Postponed due to Covid cases in Queensland

The second Sheffield Shield clash of the 2021-22 season featuring Queensland and Tasmania has been called off moments before the start of Tuesday (28 Sept). That’s why the Sheffield Shield has been postponed due to the COVID cases in Queensland.

The Four new Covid-19 positive cases :-

The Four new Covid-19 positive cases have been reporting in Queensland. So it was later decided to postpone the Games.

Initially, Queensland Cricket said that the game could resume the next day subject to normal health conditions, but Cricket Australia later backed, that the clash would be played later.

The two teams are also set to face off in the March One-Day Cup on Sunday (October 3) and at the moment, it is not easy whether this fixture will go ahead or not.

“Following the decision of the Tasmanian team to move home today, the (Shield) match will be rescheduled for a new date later in the season,” CA said in a statement.

To Be Played on 3 October :-

“There will be delimited Marsh One-Day Cup matches between the two teams. To be played this Sunday on 3 October, and updates will be provided in due course.”

Cricket Tasmania later approved that the game could still take place despite the new cases, but adopted a safety-first approach.

“Cricket Tasmania has decided to return its Tasmanian Tigers March Sheffield Shield and one-day squad to Tasmania today,” he said in a statement.

A Careful And thoughtful Decision :-

“This is not resulting to be taken lightly. Although that hasn’t stopped Queensland’s matches from starting today. A conscious and thoughtful decision is being taken. And it is our solid opinion that we should protect our players and staff.” Better to keep at home.
