Shikhar Dhawan: The 3-match ODI series against New Zealand is going to start in Auckland from 25 November. The last match of this series will be played on 30 November. The command of the team is in the hands of Shikhar Dhawan. It is because Rohit Sharma is not a part of the team on this tour.

Even before this Shikhar Dhawan has captained :-

Earlier, Dhawan had captained the team on the West Indies tour and then when South Africa’s team played before the T20 World Cup, it was under Dhawan’s leadership at that time as well.

But there was such a tour when at the last moment he was removed from the captaincy and KL Rahul was given the command of the team. At that time there was a lot of discussion about why this was done, but now Shikhar Dhawan has exposed it.

Dhawan said this in the press conference before the ODI series against New Zealand :-

When he was asked about this during the press conference before the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand, he gave a candid answer.

Shikhar Dhawan said that “You have asked a good question. I consider myself fortunate that I am getting the opportunity to lead the team at this stage of my career.

It is a challenge for me. We have won a good series with a young team.” If I talk about Zimbabwe tour, KL Rahul was the vice-captain of our team. When he came back, I kept in mind that he has to go to the Asia Cup.

If Rohit had been injured during the Asia Cup, KL could have been asked to lead. So I thought it is better that he practices it during the Zimbabwe tour.

He said that I was not hurt by it. I guess whenever this happens, it is for the best. I was given the responsibility of leading the team once again for the South Africa series. Shikhar Dhawan further said, I never felt bad.
