Shivnarine Chanderpaul to join West Indies U-19 squad as batting consultant

Former West Indies batsman Chanderpaul is preparing for the World Cup to be played in the Caribbean in January-February 2022. With The batting, Shivnarine Chanderpaul joined the West Indies U-19 team as a consultant for the upcoming High-Performance Camp in Antigua.

Chanderpaul has the most number of Test players :-

Shivnarine Chanderpaul is West Indies’ most Test player with 164 matches to his name. With 11,867 runs at an average of over 51, he has also played 268 ODIs and 22 T20Is.

He will be joined by Floyd Reifer (head coach), R. Nurse (assistant coach), and Curtly Ambrose (bowling coach) along with other support staff. The preparatory camp will run from November 15 to 28 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.

Jimmy Adams, CWI’s director of cricket said:- “Shiva has a great deal of cricketing knowledge. And know-how and would be a great addition to the coaching staff.”

Sir Curtley Ambrose’s game and an icon :-

“We already have another icon of the game in Sir Curtley Ambrose, who is on the team from the addition of the camp in August, as well as a number of other fine coaches.”

In addition to the last one and a few trial matches held in August, the selectors have selected 28 players for this camp. The squad includes two newcomers Jaden Leacock, a right-arm fast-medium bowler, and right-handed batsman, and Kevin Wickham, a right-handed batsman and right-arm wrist-spinner.

The Tour of West Indies Under-19 team :-

“Apart from a month-long camp in Antigua in August and the 18-man West Indies U-19 team’s tour of England, I look forward to seeing the continued progress and improvement of various players as well as interacting with them.

To understand his thinking and his approach to the game,” said Robert Haynes, the CWI’s chief selector for the Under-19s.

“The two-week camp will consist of four practice matches, coupled with continued dexterity and physical development, and is an entitlement opportunity for all players to be selected for the series at home and the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.”
