SL vs IRE: Ireland Beat Sri Lankan Bowlers, Scored 300 On the First Day

The second match of the two-match Test series (SL vs IRE) between Sri Lanka and Ireland started in Galle from today. The first day saw a tremendous batting performance from Ireland and the team had scored 319/4 in 90 overs at stumps. No batsman from Ireland could score a century on the first day but three half-century innings were definitely seen.

Asita Became a Victim of Fernando

Ireland elected to bat first after winning the toss but the team got off to a bad start. Opener Peter Moore became the victim of Asita Fernando on 12 after scoring 5 runs. James McCullum and captain Andrew Balbirnie took the score past 40. McCallum was made his victim by Prabhat Jayasuriya and he returned to the pavilion on 43 after scoring 10 runs. Harry Tector also became Jayasuriya’s second victim by scoring 18 runs. Balbirnie was quick from one end and brought up his half-century in just 43 balls. By the time of lunch, Ireland had scored 106/3 in 28 overs.

After lunch, the experienced pair of Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling batted brilliantly and gave no chances to the Sri Lankan bowlers. Both shared a century partnership and took their team close to 200 till tea. During this, Sterling managed to complete his half-century.

Ireland got a Shock and Paul Stirling, Playing Brilliantly, had to Retire hurt on a Personal Score of 74

Ireland suffered a setback at the start of the final session when Paul Stirling, playing brilliantly, had to retire hurt on a personal score of 74. Balbirnie was on his way to a century in the best way but was dismissed after scoring 95 runs. His wicket was taken by Ramesh Mendis at the score of 232. From here Lorcan Tucker and Curtis Campher took the lead and took their team’s score past 300. At stumps, Tucker was unbeaten on 78 and Kampfer was unbeaten on 27, and the two had an unbeaten partnership of 87 runs. Prabhat Jayasuriya took the maximum two wickets for Sri Lanka.
