SL vs PAK 2nd Test: Sri Lanka’s strong start in the second test, scored 6 wickets on the first day, 315 runs

Galle: Dinesh Chandimal and Oshada Fernando scored half-centuries as Sri Lanka scored 315 for six in the first innings on the first day of the second Test against Pakistan on Sunday. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat after which skipper Dimuth Karunaratne (40) and Fernando (50) got the team off to a good start by adding 92 runs for the first wicket.

Fernando used the moves well against the spinners

Fernando used his moves well against the spinners and hit three straight sixes. With the third six, he completed the seventh Test half-century in 70 balls but was caught by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan on the next ball of Mohammad Nawaz. He hit four fours and three sixes in his innings.

Pakistan also run out Kusal Mendis (03) on the last ball before lunch. After lunch, Karunaratne caught Naseem Shah trying to play a reverse sweep off Yasir Shah. Former captains Chandimal (80) and Angelo Mathews (42) added 75 runs for the fourth wicket to bring the team’s score close to 200 runs. Chandimal took a more aggressive approach and hit two sixes and nine fours in his innings.

Mathews becomes 6th cricketer to play 100 Tests for Sri Lanka

Mathews became the sixth cricketer to play 100 Tests for Sri Lanka. He was given life by Babar Azam on the ball of Noman Ali on the score of 36 runs. However, he could not take much advantage of it and was caught by wicketkeeper Rizwan off Noman’s own ball.

Chandimal was moving towards a century but in an attempt to play a big shot off Nawaz’s ball. He was caught by Fawad Alam. Chandimal has been in excellent form this year, scoring 698 runs in nine innings at an average of 116. Including a double century against Australia.

Naseem Shah bowled Dhananjay de Silva (33) with the second new ball. Two balls later, Babar dropped the catch of Niroshan Dickwella at slips. At the end of the day’s play, Dickwella was playing for 42 while Dunith Velalage was supporting him with six runs.
