Sydney, Jan 3 (PTI) Star Australia batsman Steve Smith on Monday said England pacer Stuart Broad’s limited role in the ongoing Ashes series has surprised even the home team.

Broad, who took 526 wickets in 150 matches for England, was included in the squad for the second Test in Adelaide but did not play in the first and third matches.

According to cricket.com.au, Smith said, “We were a little surprised. He was kept out of the two matches in which the wickets suited him.

Steve says he bowled well in Adelaide

“He bowled well in Adelaide. I’ve always had good competition with him. He’s got me out several times. I’ve also scored a few runs against him. It’s been a good match,” Smith said.

Broad is likely to make a comeback in the fourth Test starting here on Wednesday. Australia lead the series 3-0 and England will look to avoid a clean sweep.

Smith said, “They have great bowlers

Smith said, “They have great bowlers. He (Broad) and Jimmy (Anderson) are world class players and have been playing their roles well for a long time. Maybe this week they both play. I can’t say anything for sure.”
