The South Africa team, which is trying for direct qualification for the World Cup, has suffered a major setback. In the third ODI against England, one point was deducted from South Africa’s account for slow over rate and due to this they have suffered a lot.

England beat South Africa by 59 runs in the third ODI. Batting first, England scored 346 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. In response, South Africa’s team was reduced to 287 runs in 43.1 overs. Although, despite this defeat, South Africa won the series 2-1, but due to the slow over rate, South Africa had to suffer.

South Africa Suffered Due to Poor Over Rate

The South African team is currently at the 9th position in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. Due to deduction of one point, they can suffer a lot. They now have competition with Sri Lanka, who are at the 8th position. If Sri Lanka does poorly then South Africa may have a chance. South Africa fell one over short in the stipulated time. And for this reason the match referee deducted a point from their account and also imposed a fine.

South Africa were in dire need of a point in the Super League but one point was deducted from them. This is his second big mistake in this cycle regarding the over rate. Whereas if we talk about Sri Lanka, they have already been penalized thrice. On the other hand, West Indies and Ireland have been penalized twice each while India has been penalized once for over-rate.
