Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday said the Home Ministry will take a decision on the Indian cricket team’s visit to Pakistan for the Asia Cup next year, but feels the chances of players crossing the border are not very high. However, Anurag Thakur is hoping that the Pakistan team will come to India to participate in the 50-over World Cup next year. We welcome everyone.

Jay Shah had said on Tuesday that the Indian team would not go on the tour of Pakistan

Actually, this issue arose when the BCCI circular mentioned that the Indian team can go on a tour of Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, but the team will have to take permission from the government. However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is also the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), had said on Tuesday that the Indian team would not tour Pakistan. The tournament will be played at neutral venue.

In such a situation, a letter from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also surfaced, which states that the ACC will have to meet soon on this matter. Apart from this, this decision of India can affect the participation of Pakistan team in the ODI World Cup to be held in India next year.

On the controversy after Jay Shah’s statement, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, while answering the questions of journalists, said-

“All the teams that have qualified for the (World Cup) are invited (to compete on Indian soil). Many times Pakistan teams have come to India and play. I think India is not in a position to dictate (by anyone) and nobody has any reason to do so. I hope all countries will come and compete.”

Anurag Thakur further said about touring Pakistan, “The possibilities are always there. Who would have thought that there would be COVID-19. Anything can happen, but the chances (of the Indian team going to Pakistan) are not high. It is a decision, Which will be taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Overall, the safety and security of the players is an important matter. It is a security concern. The government will take a decision on that. Let the time come, let’s see the situation at that time.”
