Sri Lanka and West Indies Lost the Ticket to the World Cup! South Africa Dropped Two Former Champions

Only the top 8 teams of its points table could make it directly to the main round of the ODI World Cup 2023. But now South Africa has knocked out two-time champion West Indies and one-time champion and two-time runner-up Sri Lanka from the race for direct qualification to the league round. Both these teams will now have to play the qualification round.

Along With Sri Lanka, the West Indies Have also been Thrown Out of the Race for Direct Qualification

Talking about Sri Lanka, this team had recently lost the ticket for the final of the WTC (World Test Championship) and now the ticket for the World Cup has also gone out of the hands of the team. After losing the Test series 2–0, the team had to lose the ODI series 2–0 on the tour of New Zealand. On the other hand, South Africa beat Netherlands 2-0 in the ODI series, along with Sri Lanka, the West Indies have also been thrown out of the direct qualification race. Eight teams will qualify directly in the league stage for the 2023 World Cup to be in India. Out of which seven teams New Zealand, England, India, Australia, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan confirmed. With Sri Lanka and South Africa out of the race for the eighth team, the only contest is between Ireland and Africa.

War in South Africa and Ireland

All the matches of West Indies and Sri Lanka in the ongoing World Cup Super League have been completed. Sri Lanka (81) are at 10th position with all their matches now over. At the same time, West Indies have slipped to 9th position with 88 points. On the other hand, South Africa’s team has come in eighth place with 98 points after beating Netherlands. Now Ireland’s team is also in this race, which has 68 points and has to play three ODIs against Bangladesh from May 9 to 14. Now taking the equation according to these remaining matches, there is nothing in South Africa’s hands. If Ireland win all their three matches, they too will end up with 98 points and then net runrate comes into play. Currently, Africa’s net runrate is -0.07, which is higher than Ireland’s -0.38.

This Will Happen After 44 Years

A total of 10 teams including West Indies and Sri Lanka will now appear in the qualifiers round.
