Former Sri Lanka Test Captain Suranga Lakmal has signed a two-year deal with Derbyshire after retirement.

The Sri Lankan pacer will reunite with former national coach Mickey Arthur. He had recently announced his international retirement.

Former Sri Lanka Test Captain Suranga Lakmal has informed Sri Lanka Cricket. That he will retire from all forms of International Cricket following the completion of the upcoming Sri Lanka Tour of India 2022.

The 34-year-old fast bowler Suranga Lakmal is at his best in Test cricket. Taking 168 wickets in 68 matches so far.

Suranga said after retirement letter submitted

“I am indebted to Sri Lanka Cricket for giving me this amazing opportunity and believing in me to bring me the honor of my motherland. Because it [a] absolute pleasure to be associated with the board that shaped my professional life and enriched me as well Personal development,” he said in his retirement letter submitted to Sri Lanka Cricket.

Arthur joined Derbyshire as director of cricket at the end of last year. Praised Lakmal’s qualities as a bowler and a leader enough to welcome him to the club.

Arthur said-

“Suranga is one of Sri Lanka’s all-time greats with the ball. And it’s great to be able to bring him to Derbyshire for the next two seasons. “We have big ambitions for the project at Derbyshire. And Suranga’s decision to retire from international cricket and remain committed to the club shows. That he is as excited about those plans as other players and coaches.

Lakmal said: “The county cricket experience is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and the opportunity to work with Mickey again was something I couldn’t turn down.

“I have loved every moment of my international career. And I want to thank Sri Lanka for giving me the opportunity to live my dream. Hopefully, I can bring that experience to this new challenge, helping young bowlers.” To those who are already making an impact in Derbyshire.”
