T20 WC 2022: Afridi’s response to Gambhir calling Babar a Sailfish

Babar Azam has been the target of critics in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 for both his captaincy and batting. Apart from Pakistan, former Indian cricketers have also targeted Babar Azam, in which even Gautam Gambhir was not behind. At the same time, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has backed Babar Azam and has given a befitting reply to the former cricketers. Recently Gautam Gambhir had said that Babar Azam is a Sailfish cricketer and he puts himself before the team. Afridi did not like this statement of Gambhir at all.

T20 WC 2022: During the match between Netherlands vs Pakistan, Gautam Gambhir had said –

“I think first you think about your team and then you think about yourself. If things are not going according to your plan, Fakhar Zaman should have been sent up in the batting order. As a captain, this is called sailfishiness. It is easy to be Sailfish, it is easy for Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to open the innings and create records for Pakistan. But if you want to be a leader then you have to think about your team first.”

Along with answering this, while giving advice to Babar, Afridi said on Sama TV –

“After the tournament, try to tell Babar to say something about him as well because he will go home too. Criticism is always there, but you should be careful while choosing the words. You should use such words that that player As far as Babar is concerned, he has played a lot of match-winning innings. The consistency with which he has scored runs, very few Pakistani batsmen have been able to do.”
