T20 WC 2022: Virat Kohli made a stellar return to form by scoring a century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup. He opened with KL Rahul when captain Rohit Sharma did not play. Kohli played an innings of 122 not out.

Virat had earlier opened with Rohit against England in 2021. His record opening the innings is excellent. This raised the question whether Team India can open Virat in the upcoming T20 World Cup? Should Kohli open the innings with Rohit?

T20 WC 2022: Gautam Gambhir not happy about getting Virat to open :-

Some cricket lovers agree that Kohli should open, but former India opener Gautam Gambhir is not happy with it. When asked about this on a Star Sports show, Gambhir was furious.

He said that these nonsense things should not be talked about Virat’s batting. Gambhir says that when the team has Rahul and Rohit, then how can Kohli get the opening done.

Gautam Gambhir said, “I have already said on this matter that there should be no debate on this. In the third order, you always need a batsman who is ready to play in any order. If your openers bat for 10 overs, then Suryakumar Yadav should be sent at number three. This will keep the pace of the runs going. If the wicket falls early, then Kohli should come at number three.

Performance on opening Virat :-

Virat Kohli had said during the IPL that he would open and also try to open the innings for Team India. However, this did not happen. Virat could not open for India. Kohli has opened in nine matches for India in T20 career. During this, 400 runs have been scored at an average of 57.14. His strike rate is 161.29. One century and two half-centuries have come out with Virat’s bat while opening the innings.

Hayden also in favor of not getting Kohli to open :-

Apart from Gambhir, former Australia opener Matthew Hayden also wants to see Virat at the third order. He believes that this place is the best for Virat Kohli. He can rotate the strike continuously. Team India is currently moving ahead with a plan to open with Rohit-Rahul, put Kohli in the third order and Suryakumar Yadav at the fourth order.
