WC 2022: KL Rahul is back in the squad for the ODI series against Zimbabwe. In such a situation, the Indian team management can field a new opening pair. Young batsman Shubman Gill has come into the West Indies with an impressive performance.

In such a situation, they can get a chance at the top. Gill can at least be placed in the top-3 if not the opening, because Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul or Dhawan and Gill can open.

Shubman Gill batted well against West Indies :-

With his good batting technique in the West Indies, Shubman Gill won the ‘Player of the Series’ award by scoring unbeaten 64, 43 and 98 in three ODIs.

The 22-year-old is currently enjoying a stellar form in world cricket, but with Rahul back in the team, the young batsman’s race at the top may stall for a while. If they don’t open, they can play at number three.

Devang Gandhi, “Gill can come at number three” :-

Former Test opener Devang Gandhi feels Shubman Gill can come in at number three while opening with Rahul Dhawan for the one-day series starting August 18 in Harare.

Speaking to PTI, the former national selector said, “I think Shubman is being groomed properly by the Indian team management.

He has done very well in the Caribbean ODIs, but I think Shubman may have to come in at No 3 for this particular series as the team is being built.”

WC 2022: Shubman Gill can bat at number 3 because of this :-

He added, “Look, No. 3 is a proper top-order slot. He might have to come out to bat on the second ball of the innings as well and it’s like opening the batting.

Also, I believe once Rahul has enough playing time, he will bat again in the middle order and Gill will be prepared for the 2023 event.”
