New Zealand made a bang in their very first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Last season’s runners-up Kiwis defeated hosts and defending champions Australia by 89 runs in the first match of Super-12. New Zealand, batting first after losing the toss at the Sydney Cricket Ground, set a target of 201 runs in front of Australia with the help of Devon Conway (92 not out) and Finn Allen (42). After this, the Kiwi team bowled Australia out for 111 runs thanks to the superb bowling of Tim Southee (6/3) and Mitchell Santner (31/3) and New Zealand team created history.

New Zealand won the first international match in Australia after 11 years

This is New Zealand’s first win in any format in Australia since 2011. With this victory, New Zealand has also avenged the loss to Australia in the final of the T20 World Cup 2021 played last year. At the same time, this is New Zealand’s first win against Australia in white-ball cricket since February 2009.
