T20 World Cup 2022, Marcus Stoinis: Defending champions Australia have opened their account of victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on the basis of the fastest innings of Marcus Stoinis’ career.

Marcus Stoinis hit half-century in 17 balls :-

Stoinis made his fifty in just 17 balls against Sri Lanka at the Perth Stadium on Tuesday. Thanks to his stormy innings, Australia achieved the target of 158 runs from Sri Lanka, losing three wickets with 21 balls to spare. Marcus Stoinis washed the Sri Lanka Lions well at a strike rate of 327.78.

During his innings, he played an unbeaten and match-winning knock of 59 runs off 18 balls with four fours and six sixes.

Fastest T20I fifty for Australia :-

Marcus Stoinis has now become the fastest batsman to score fifty for Australia. He completed his half-century in 17 balls during his innings, which is the fastest fifty by any batsman for Australia in T20 International cricket.

Prior to Stoinis, David Warner scored an 18-ball fifty against West Indies in 2010, while Glenn Maxwell scored an 18-ball fifty against Pakistan in 2014. This is the first time in Stoinis’ career that he has hit a fifty and won Australia.

Second fastest fifty of T20 WC :-

Stoinis’s fifty in 17 balls is the second fastest fifty in the history of T20 World Cup. Before him, Yuvraj Singh had done this feat in 12 balls.

Yuvraj scored a 12-ball fifty against England in Durban in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Apart from Stoinis, the Netherlands’ Stefan Meiberg has also scored a half-century in 17 balls against Ireland in the 2014 T20 World Cup.
