T20 World Cup 2022: Team India did not get good food at SCG, players boycotted

T20 World Cup 2022: Indian players boycotted lunch after their optional training session at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday afternoon as the food was too cold and inadequate.

The dressing room menu consisting of fruits, falafel and ‘make your sandwich’ was not liked by many players and complaints were made to the concerned official at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

These players participated in the optional training session :-

Team India captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Mohammad Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin; Shardul Thakur and Deepak Hooda participated in an optional training session.

Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh were rested by the team management after Pakistan’s match in Melbourne on Sunday.

This is what a member of the Indian team told the Indian Express:-

A member of the Indian team told the Indian Express, “The food was not up to the standard. We can’t eat sandwiches after the practice session.” Some players ate falafel on the field, while the rest opted to eat at the hotel.

The Indian team will rest ahead of their match against the Netherlands as the ICC has chosen Blacktown, which is 42 km from the SCG, for the practice session.

India’s match will be with Netherlands on October 27 in the evening :-

T20 World Cup 2022: The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) will host the double header on Thursday 27 October. South Africa will play Bangladesh during the day, followed by India’s match against Netherlands in the evening. As per the ICC schedule, South Africa, Bangladesh and Netherlands will hold practice sessions at the SCG on Wednesday. The Indian team will not go to Blacktown.

During the 2021 tour of Australia, the Indian team camped in Blacktown while staying at the Olympic Park. However, the team did not want to cover such a long distance on the eve of the match.

The ICC had already prepared the schedule for all the participating teams. However, it is up to the teams whether they want to stick to that schedule or not.
