Coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma are on the target of critics after Team India’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup. Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has said that there is a need to change the captain as well as the coach in the T20 team.

In the same tournament last year, the Indian team could not reach the semi-finals. After that coach Ravi Shastri stepped down from his post. His term was over. Shastri could have presented his claim for the post again, but he did not. After his departure, the then National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief Rahul Dravid was given the responsibility of the coach’s post. Dravid had earlier coached the Under-19 and India-A teams. Along with the coach, the team also got a new captain. After the departure of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma became the captain of the team.

Harbhajan Singh calls for change in T20 set-up

The team was expected to succeed in the T20 World Cup this year from the new pair of coach and captain, but it did not happen. Team India was pitted against England in the semi-finals. Questions arose on India’s plans and ways of playing it. Harbhajan Singh has demanded a change in the T20 set-up. He has said that Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra, who knows T20 cricket well in place of Rahul Dravid, should be given this responsibility.

Harbhajan in favor of changing the captain along with the coach

Harbhajan, a member of the two World Cup winning teams, said India needs a coach who understands the format. For this there should be someone who has recently retired. Harbhajan said, “I have a lot of respect for Dravid. I have played with them. Rahul Dravid should be replaced by someone like Ashish Nehra, who recently retired from T20 cricket. Ashish Nehra will be my favorite coach.

Under the coaching of Ashish Nehra, the team of Gujarat Titans won the IPL in the very first attempt. Then the captain of the team was Hardik Pandya. Harbhajan also revealed his captaincy choice. He said, ‘Hardik Pandya is my choice for captaincy. There is no better option than them. He is the best player in the team and you need more people like him in the team.”

Hardik will captain in New Zealand

After the defeat in the T20 World Cup, the team has to play a series of three T20s and three ODIs against New Zealand. Many experienced players included in the T20 World Cup team will be seen playing new in this series. They have been given rest. Hardik Pandya will lead the T20 and Shikhar Dhawan will lead the ODI team. Hardik has previously commanded the team in Ireland. Under his captaincy, the team of Gujarat Titans became the champion in its very first season. At the same time, Dhawan has taken over the captaincy in several ODI series in the last two years.
