New Delhi. Batting first at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday, Gujarat Titans scored 188 runs in 20 overs. Shubman Gill played an excellent inning of 101 runs. Chasing the target, Sunrisers Hyderabad were not allowed to go beyond 154 runs by the Gujarat bowlers. Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma took 4-4 wickets. The bowlers have equal contribution with the batsmen in taking the defending champions Gujarat Titans to the IPL 2023 playoffs.

Shubman Gill is at number two in the list of batsmen who have scored the most runs in IPL 2023, while Gujarat bowlers are competing for the most wickets. Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan have so far taken 23-23 wickets in 13 matches. These two are at number one and second in the list of top bowlers. Mohit Sharma, who took 17 wickets in 10 matches, is also included in the top seven. However, Caribbean fast bowler Alzari Joseph is proving to be a weak link for Gujarat. Captain Hardik Pandya, who had scored a lot of runs in many matches, made Joseph sit on the bench in the match against Hyderabad.

Included in the Selected Bowlers of IPL

Alzarri Joseph made his IPL debut in 2019. In the same year, while playing for Mumbai Indians, Joseph took 6 wickets for just 12 runs in the match against Hyderabad. He is only the third bowler in IPL history to take 6 wickets in an innings. Apart from them, the names of Pakistan’s Sohail Tanveer and Australian spinner Adam Zampa are included in this list.

Gujarat Titans Roped in Joseph for Rs 2.40 Crore

In the IPL 2022 auction, Gujarat Titans included Alzarri Joseph with a base price of 75 lakhs in their team by spending Rs 2.40 crores. However, the Caribbean bowler was not even close to his old performances. In IPL 2022, Alzarri Joseph was able to take only 7 wickets in 9 matches. Even in the current season of the T20 league, the performance of the fast bowler has not been as expected. Joseph has been able to take only 7 wickets in 7 matches so far. He has scored 225 runs in 144 balls at an average of more than 32. In the match played on May 12, Mumbai Indians batsmen scored 52 runs in 4 overs of Alzarri Joseph. Joseph also failed to take wickets.
