Test star Nathan Lyon looms in the Sydney Sixers’ historic bid for a third consecutive BBL crown as the final puzzle piece.
Nathan Lyon’s international commitments have come to an end after Australia’s 4-0 Ashes win over England. He has signaled his desire to be part of the Sixers’ final swing and has been included in the squad to face the Brisbane Heat as he aims to secure a spot in the Qualifier Finals.

Lyon was among a group of players from the Australia Test team who took a chartered flight to Melbourne on Tuesday to join their BBL clubs.
Scott Boland will be back in action with Marnus Labuschagne on Wednesday for the heats already concluding with the Hobart Hurricanes.
Adelaide Strikers will have a big boost to receive Player of the Series Travis Head and Alex Carey for the Eliminator Final in the Ashes, while Jhye Richardson will join the Perth Scorchers, and Usman Khawaja will return with skipper Sydney Thunder.
Players joining the Test squad will have to be separated from the rest of their BBL squads during a reunion schedule as part of the tournament’s COVID-19 protocol as the Ashes bubble ended at the end of the Hobart match.
It would include the same rules that Andre Russell had to dictate upon arrival, including varying changing areas and sitting away from teammates.
Sixers captain Moises Henriques said of Lyon, who took 16 wickets at 23.56 against England, “He is very anxious to be back and always says he loves playing for us.”

“I’m pretty sure he’ll get it for our next game in Brisbane [on Wednesday] or the final.
“He’s just played five Test matches together and he’s in a bubble, so he wants to rest and rest for three or four days before he comes back, but we’ll outfit it with him.”
Lyon’s potential combination, along with the sizzling form of fellow experienced tweaker Steve O’Keefe, could culminate in a surge of spin for the Sixers along the way to build their charge for the silverware.
In addition to taking 10 wickets at 12.90 in the campaign and a financial handling rate of 5.86. O’Keefe has indicated his desire to retire after the final, describing his body as “old, fat, slow and sore”. Henriques is doing his best to persuade O’Keefe to change his mind.
“Of course I am,” he said. “I’ve been trying to do this every day until now. I face him in the nets every day, for 20 years, and I still can’t beat him. You can imagine how hard I make him work.” I want.”
Henriques believes the Sixers missed a move by resting O’Keefe in an eight-wicket loss to the Adelaide Strikers on Monday. O’Keefe, 37, and still not fully recovered from a finger injury, was likely to miss an Adelaide Oval clash or an upcoming meeting with the Heat.

“We took the responsibility of playing the final game with him last Saturday against Sydney Thunder,” said Moises Henriques. “We will have played four games in four different cities in six days, so that’s a very high responsibility.
“He was always going to block this game or Brisbane. Maybe if we had time again. We’ve had a little bit of success on that wicket, looking at the spinners in the two Adelaide Strikers.”
