Against the home team at Edgbaston, Superchargers won the toss and elected to field. Phoenix’s captain Sophie Devine propelled her to her usual quick start.
As he tried to take advantage of the power play, he scored a quick 19 off just 11 balls before falling to Ellis Davidson-Richards.
Davidson-Richards was one of the bowlers on the Superchargers as they also dismissing the dangerous pair of Amy Jones and Sophie Molyneux to finish with 3-30 in their four sets.
Katie Levick, who went for less than a run, was the only other bowler to take a wicket as Phoenix finished 153-4.
Jones’ 48 off just 28 balls and Molineux’s quick 24 off 13 balls propelled Phoenix forward, while Ellyse Perry continued her fine form as she remained unbeaten on 22 off just 17 balls.
Alyssa Healy was fluening in the chase and went off the block in fast fashion as is customary. But Lewis was scratching at the other end as Molyneux backed up his crucial innings by starting with 10 dot balls.
However, Healy attacked the other bowlers. And continued to find regular boundaries to run into the 40s before Molineux made a star turn again. With Healy scoring 46 off 28 balls and well stumped by Jones.
Not having Rodrigues, the Superchargers were relying on their other overseas player, Laura Wolvaardt, to help them in the chase.
Wolvaardt replaced Healy at the crease and held one end. As Superchargers captain Holly Armitage came out with great intent and hit four boundaries in his first eight balls.
Molineux continued to make a decisive impact as she came back to a bowl. The final set and dismissed Wolvaardt for 32 as Perry took a diving catch past midwicket.
Armitage continued to work hard but had a lot to do with Molineux’s brilliant spell at the start. And the end of the match set the course of the match.
