The ICC Team of the Year Recognises 11 Outstanding Individuals

The ICC Team of the Year recognises 11 outstanding individuals who have charged one and all – be it with the bat, the ball, or by their all-rounder exploits in a calendar year.

  • The ICC Women’s T20I Player of the Year Named.
  • The Named ICC Women’s ODI Player of the Year.
  • The ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year.
  • The Named ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year.
  • The Named ICC Men’s T20I Player of the Year.

Dimuth Karunaratne (Sri Lanka) :-

The Sri Lankan captain is a worthy addition to the team, as he has consistently given his team solid starts during the calendar year. He has scored 902 runs in 7 matches at an average of 69.38 with four centuries.
Including a double century against Bangladesh and a gruesome century against South Africa in Johannesburg. He was nominated for the ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year award.

Rohit Sharma (India):-

Rohit Sharma came into his own as an opener in the longest format of the game. He scored 906 runs in the year at an average of 47.68 with two centuries. Both centuries were memorable innings against England in adverse conditions – one at home in Chennai and the other away from home at the Oval in cold conditions. With important assignments to come, Sharma will have a crucial role to play for India in 2022.

Marnus Labuschagne (Australia):-

2022 was a memorable year for Marnus Labuschagne as he continued to score runs in bulk, further cementing his position as Australia’s long-time No. He was encouraged to climb to the top of the charts of the MRF Tires ICC Test Player Rankings to bat. Labuschagne scored 526 runs in 5 matches at an average of 65.75 with two centuries.

Joe Root (England):-

2021 belonged to England captain Joe Root, his team competing for results in the longest form of the game. It was a year to age for Joe Root as he scored 1708 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61. His 1708 runs are the third most runs in a calendar year in the history of Test cricket.

Kane Williamson (c) (New Zealand) :-

Guiding the 2021 ICC Test Team of the Year, Kane Williamson was a result for New Zealand, leading them to the inaugural World Test Championship final against India in Southampton. He was also steady with the bat, scoring 395 runs in 4 matches at an average of 65.83 with a century.

Fawad Alam (Pakistan):-

At the age of 36, Fawad Alam, after years of trolling on the domestic circuit, has finally established himself as the cornerstone of Pakistan’s batting line-up in Test cricket. He was at his best in 2021, scoring 571 runs in 9 matches at an average of 57.10 with three centuries.

Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper) (India):-

Rishabh Pant established himself as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman across all three formats, especially with his continued growth in the Test arena. He scored 748 runs in 12 matches at an average of 39.36, including a memorable century against England in Ahmedabad. He was also held responsible for 39 dismissals in 23 innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin (India):-

The off-spinner stunned many batsmen with his best. Ashwin took 54 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 16.64, making a big impact in the home series against England and New Zealand. He also scored 355 runs at an average of 25.35, including a crucial century against England in Chennai.

Kyle Jamieson (New Zealand):-

Jamieson emerged as an excellent bowling option for the Kiwis in 2021. He was complemented by the trio of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and Neil Wagner. , he took 27 wickets in 5 matches at an average of 17.51, also scored 105 runs at 17.50, and was named Player of the Match in the ICC World Test Championship final against India in Southampton.

Hassan Ali (Pakistan) :-

Hasan Ali has always delivered with the ball for Pakistan in 2021, whether as a strike bowler or when it comes to holding on to one end. In his best year ever in the longest format, Ali took 41 wickets in 9 matches at a sensational average of 16.07.
He took five wickets once in the match of 10/114 and filed the best bowling figures. Forming a formidable pairing with Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan will hope to continue its form in 2022 with some tough assignments

Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan):-

It was a year to remember for Shaheen Afridi, especially in the longest format of the game. Afridi displayed excellent pace with the new ball and reversed the old ball, taking 47 wickets at an average of 17.06 in nine matches, including three five-wicket hauls.
