The Pakistani fast bowler Raiz, who rocked the WC in 2015 has retired from international cricket

Wahab Riaz Retirement: Before the Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023, Pakistan’s star bowler Wahab Riaz announced his retirement from international cricket. Wahab has decided to play only club cricket after saying goodbye to his 15-year international career. He announced this on Wednesday, as well as informed everyone through social media. Pakistan Cricket Board has been shocked by the news of the sudden retirement of the left-arm bowler.

Pakistani fast bowlers who rocked the World Cup 2015

Wahab has participated in the 2011, 2015, and 2019 World Cups for Pakistan, during which he has played a total of 20 World Cup matches for Pakistan. Fans still remember the bowling that Wahab Riaz did against Australia in the 2015 World Cup.

Pakistan cricket team wasn’t given a chance in the three years

Wahab was not being given a chance in the Pakistan cricket team for the last three years. He played his last match in the year 2020. Announcing his retirement, the fast bowler wrote on social media that “I am withdrawing from the international pitch…. After a wonderful journey, I have now decided to retire from International Cricket. Thank you so much to the Pakistan Cricket Board, my family, coaches, mentors, all my teammates, fans, and everyone who has supported me. I am looking forward to playing franchise cricket.”

Riyaz was made the sports minister in Pakistan’s Punjab earlier this year

Talking about Wahab’s international career, he has taken 83 wickets in 27 Test matches for Pakistan. While in the limited-overs game, 120 wickets have been taken in 91 ODIs and 34 wickets in 36 T20 Internationals. He was also a part of the Champions Trophy-winning Pakistan cricket team in the year 2017. Apart from this, he was also included in the Pakistan team in the 2011 World Cup, in which he performed much better. He also took a five-wicket haul in this World Cup. Riyaz has been made the sports minister in Pakistan’s Punjab earlier this year.

The decision to stay in franchise cricket

Even though Wahab has said goodbye to international cricket, he has decided to continue in franchise cricket. Significantly, he was part of the Peshawar Zalmi team in the same season of the Pakistan Cricket League.
