BCCI, Sourav Ganguly: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to get a new president on October 18. Elections are going to be held for all the posts of BCCI, for which candidates had to file their nominations by October 11 and 12.
So far only Roger Binny has filed nomination for BCCI President :-
Current BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla informed that only former World Cup winning team player Roger Binny has nominated for BCCI President so far. So he can be elected unopposed for the post. The official announcement of Binny becoming the 36th President will be made on October 18. With this announcement, the 3-year long term of the current President Sourav Ganguly will also end.
Ganguly became the BCCI President in October 2019. After the cricket field, he also ran a lot of bullying in the BCCI, due to which there were many controversies. But now Ganguly’s dominance in BCCI is going to end soon. Let us know which 3 big controversies caught the most attention when Ganguly was the BCCI President-
Ravi Shastri resigned from his post only after the arrival of Sourav Ganguly :-
Everyone knows that Sourav Ganguly’s relationship with former coach Ravi Shastri has not been good. Shastri took over as the coach of Team India when Kumble left the post. It is believed that the then captain Virat Kohli did not like Kumble’s coaching at that time, due to which he was pressurizing Shastri to become the coach.
Then Ganguly did not have much hold in the BCCI. But as soon as Ganguly entered the BCCI, he started showing his intimidation. After Ganguly’s arrival, Shastri resigned from his post after 2021 WC and Ganguly brought here Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. Although Laxman is the NCA head, he appears as a coach in Dravid’s absence.
Controversy regarding the captaincy of Virat Kohli :-
The second and biggest controversy during Sourav Ganguly ‘s tenure was related to the captaincy of Virat Kohli. When the Indian team ODI team was announced for the South Africa tour in 2021, Rohit was given the captaincy of the team instead of Kohli.
According to reports, while leaving the captaincy of the T20 team, Kohli had expressed his desire to continue the captaincy of the ODI and Test teams. But the board wanted that there should be only one captain in white ball cricket. Due to this, the captaincy of the ODI team was snatched from Kohli.
There were also reports that the board has talked to Kohli about this. But Kohli told that no such thing has happened to him. After this tour of South Africa, Virat Kohli announced to leave the captaincy of the Test team.
Sourav Ganguly advised Wriddhiman Saha to take retirement :-
Indian veteran wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha was not selected for the home Test series against Sri Lanka this year. Rishabh Pant and KS Bharat were selected as wicket-keepers in this team. Saha expressed his displeasure at being dropped from the Test team.
Saha had also revealed that during the South Africa tour, Rahul Dravid had indicated to him that his selection would not go ahead and also advised him to retire. During that time he was told that the team wanted to give opportunities to new players. Whereas only a few months back, Ganguly had assured Saha that as long as he is in the BCCI, everything will be fine.
