This ground will be named after Sunil Gavaskar in England

Sunil Gavaskar is in fact India’s global cricket ambassador. Due to his illustrious cricket career, he has achieved many achievements in his life. Now another achievement is going to be added to his name. Actually, Leicester Cricket Ground has announced that the ground will be named after him on Saturday (23 July). With this special honor, Sunil Gavaskar will become the first Indian cricketer to have a field named after him in London or anywhere in Europe. There are grounds named after the 73-year-old in Kentucky, USA, and Zanzibar, Tanzania. It is a great honor to name a ground in Leicester and Gavaskar is humbled by that sentiment.

Gavaskar told the Times of India from London, “I am happy and honored that the ground in Leicester is being named after me. Leicester is probably the city with the strongest supporters of the game, especially Indian cricket and so it’s really a great honor.”

Travel to Leicester on Saturday to unveil its name plaque

The legendary cricketer is now set to travel to Leicester on Saturday to unveil his name plaque at the historic ground. This ground belongs to Bharat Sports and Cricket Club. Gavaskar’s image has already been painted on the entire wall of the pavilion.

The name of the ground came from Keith Vaze, Britain’s longest-serving parliamentarian of Indian origin.

Sunil Gavaskar Ground: The idea and imitation of naming the ground after Little Master came from Keith Vaz, Britain’s longest-serving MP of Indian origin. He has also represented Leicester in the UK Parliament for 32 years. He currently looks after an expatriate organization called Integration Foundation.
