Australia captain Tim Paine is ‘extremely confident’ about being fit for the first Ashes Test despite undergoing neck surgery.
A bulging disc was causing pain in the wicketkeeper’s neck and left arm. Due to which Tim Paine had to have an operation this week. To fix this problem, surgeons had to cut a hole in his throat.
Tim Paine, 36, will rest for two weeks before starting rehabilitation to be fit to lead Australia against England at the Gabba on December 8.
“Basically they cut a big hole in my throat. Moved my voice box to one side, and went that way. It’s a less invasive way,” Paine said on his SYN radio show. told.

“It was like getting to that touch-and-go stage where I either don’t finish it and take the risk that I’ll go right through the Ashes, or just fix it,” Paine said. “Very happy with the decision after seeing the surgeon there.
He said, ‘December 8 is the first Test and I am sure that before that I will be right.
“I hope to get a Shield game for Tassie before that. And hopefully winning the Ashes at the end of the third win will be something really special. I want to play for Tasmania after my international career. Fix it up and out The right decision the way to do was long term.
“I’ve had a lot of doubts throughout my career, so it’s something I’m used to; it’s okay, I’ll use that as inspiration to get back out there.”
England have expressed serious concern about the conditions they will be forced to live in during the Ashes, raising doubts over the series going ahead as planned. But Paine believes that conditions will not be anywhere near as bad as tourists fear.
Paine says the main stuff with the British is around protocol with the quarantine. But we’re not asking them to do anything that we wouldn’t.”
“I think if we can get them out of here they will know that conditions are very good during Australia’s COVID hub. And there is nothing to worry about.”
