Turmoil in PCB, Pakistan government stopped from selling PSL and international media rights

Pakistan government, PCB: The caretaker government of Pakistan has barred Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from selling media rights of international matches and Pakistan Super League (PSL). Cricket Management Committee (CMC) chief Zaka Ashraf has subsequently postponed his trip to Australia and sought time to meet Prime Minister Anwarul Ul Haq Kakar, who is also the chief patron of the board.

The government’s directive comes at a time when the CMC, which manages the affairs of the PCB, has started the process of inviting bids for the sale of PSL and international cricket media rights.

A reliable source said on December 24, ‘The government’s Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (Sports) has issued a notification to the board making it clear that from now on the CMC/PCB will need permission from the government before signing any major deal. Will have to take it.

He said due to the notification Ashraf had to postpone his previously scheduled visit to Australia. The government’s notification is being seen as a no-confidence vote against the CMC headed by Ashraf. Ashraf, who took over as CMC chief in July, was given a three-month extension in November which is ending on February 4.

The primary mandate given to the CMC was to conduct elections for regional associations and constitute a ‘Board of Governors’ to elect the new PCB chairman.

Pakistan government: PCB expects to earn around 8 to 9 billion rupees :-

The PCB is expected to earn around Rs eight to nine billion from the sale of international media rights of PSL and domestic matches and the delay in talks is a matter of concern.

The source said that as a result of the notification, approvals for seven to eight tenders related to the running of the league had already been suspended. After this, the schedule of PSL nine has also been stopped from being released as the PCB says that it can be finalized only after the successful sale of media rights.
