The ethics officer of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has disqualified two members of the MCA’s apex council on the grounds of conflict of interest.
Former Chief Justice of Madras High Court, retired Justice VK Tahilramani on Tuesday (December 28) said the election to the Supreme Council was evidence of an unbroken conflict of interest against the members, Unmesh Khanwilkar and Kiran Powar, and restrained them from continuing.

Khanwilkar is a former joint secretary of MCA’s and Powar is a former first-class cricketer from Mumbai. The policy officer was ordering that as Joint Secretary of Unmesh. When his sister Chitra Khanvilkar was selecting as the coach of Mumbai women’s team, it is a matter of conflict.
It has also been seen that the opponent (Khanwilkar) was completing six years in the MCA, first as a Joint Secretary (June 17, 2015, to October 3, 2019) and then as a Summit Council member (4 As of October 2019 by now) and so the cooling-off should go in due course.
Retired Justice Tahilramani also found Powar in a disputing position as his brother Ramesh Powar was make coach of Mumbai when he was on the Apex Council and disqualified him from all cricket dealings for a year.
The 23-page order also states that Kiran Powar was either head coach or mentor at Goregaon Sports Club and was being paying wages for it.
The 45-year-old Powar had played 39 games earlier. Her brother Ramesh (43), a former India spinner, coached Mumbai for some time last year. And is now the head coach of the Indian women’s team.
Both Unmesh Khanwilkar and Powar could not be contacted but their followers in the association said they would explore all options. Both did not attend the Apex Council meeting on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the MCA’s has decided to organize Ranji Trophy games at four grounds in the city. Apex Council has identified Wankhede Stadium, Dadoji Kondadev Stadium in Thane, and Bandra Kurla Complex for the 15 Ranji games allotted to the MCA.
Association (CCI) will also discuss with the officials of the Cricket Club of India the use of the ground. The association will host matches of the Elite A group comprising teams from Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal, Madhya Pradesh, Services, and Assam.
