East Kilbride Cricket Club’s Nayma Sheikh has jetted off to South Africa with the Scotland squad for the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup – and she will be making a bit of history in the process this weekend. The team is competing in the inaugural event and will become the first Scottish women’s team to compete in a World Cup event.
Moon Mughis Sheikh told the news –
“Nayma is very excited and really looking forward to this World Cup – so much so that she wants to make a mark by being the player of the tournament. As a mother I am already proud of Nayma. Being a cricketer myself, I Know that making it to the World Cup is already a big achievement.”
“We will be cheering him on throughout his World Cup and wishing him well in achieving his goal.”
Sixteen-year-old Nayma is the daughter of senior cricketer Moon Mughis Sheikh. And her proud mother couldn’t contain her joy as she walked past the big occasion last week.
Scotland performed brilliantly –
Scotland qualified for the tournament in August after traveling to the Netherlands for a best-of-three play-off for the final place in the competition. They performed brilliantly by winning all the three matches which will give them confidence going into their biggest tournament ever.
