For Namburi Thakur Tilak Varma or N Tilak Varma, as he is more widely knowing, the talent was always evident.

The young left-hander, who played for India in the 2020 U19 World Cup where they lost to Bangladesh in the final, never imagined that an IPL team would bid as hard on him.

N Tilak Verma, who had set a base price of ₹20 lakh for himself in the mega auction, earned more than five times that amount, as Mumbai Indians stopping competing to get him for ₹1.7 crore.

“I was convincing to play IPL but I never expecting to get this price. It is a dream coming true for me to play with a team that I have always loved.

It will give me a perfect opportunity to play with great people, learn and hone my skills,” N Tilak Verma said in an interview with Press Trust of India.

They have a lot to look forward to in the MI team in the form of captain Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, and Jasprit Bumrah being determining.

The 19-year-old batsman, who can bowl some off-spin, credits his cricketing journey to his coach Salaam Bayash, who discovered Tilak Verma as a youngster.

Along with this, coach Bayash also supported him financially. N Tilak Verma’s father works as an electrician and his family could not afford all the expenses of his cricketing career.

“It is okay if you do not write about me, but Salaam sir must be mentioned. He bought me cricket equipment and also took care of my expenses. It is because of his and my family’s support that I have reached this stage.”

The teenager leads Hyderabad in first-class cricket and will be expecting to play a backdrop in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. He has played only one FC match for Hyderabad so far.

In limited-overs cricket, N Tilak Verma has played mostly in the top order and has scored 381 runs in 15 T20Is. At a healthy strike rate of 143.77.
