UAE To Host Afghanistan’s Home Games

Afghanistan will play its home matches in the UAE for the next five years. An agreement was signed between Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). Due to this, the deal got a boost. As part of the agreement, Afghanistan will play the UAE in a three-match T20I series every five years.

A statement from the ACB said the ECB would “provide valuable logistical support to the Afghanistan Cricket Board including visa assistance and office space”.

Currently, the Afghanistan team is already playing and training in UAE. But on a series-by-series basis. But now, a formal long-term deal is in place.

No-go zone remains in Afghanistan

Given the political situation in Afghanistan, it remains a no-go zone for international teams. The situation further escalated with the Taliban takeover in August 2021. Several ACB employees were among those who fled the country in the immediate aftermath. And then it became a big challenge for players in Afghanistan to get visas to play abroad. The board later arranged UAE residency visas for around two dozen players.

According to the ICC’s Future Tours Program (FTP)

Afghanistan is set to host Australia, Pakistan, and the West Indies for three ODIs, with Zimbabwe leading into the 2023 ODI World Cup next year. In the UAE, these can be spread across locations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.

ECB secretary Mubashir Usmani said of the development:

“Both parties, the Emirates Cricket Board and the Afghanistan Cricket Board enjoy a long and cordial relationship. And we are happy to support the ACB in ensuring they have the right support for their cricket.” there is a house.

Earlier, the ACB used the National Cricket Academy in Lahore for training in 2013 and signed a similar agreement with the PCB in 2017. Meanwhile, in 2015, it signed an agreement with the BCCI to shift the base to Greater Noida.
