Usman Khawaja was named as Sydney Thunder’s new captain, replacing Callum Ferguson, who was released at the end of last season.
Khawaja has played his entire BBL career with Thunder and is the club’s leading run scorer with 33.68 with 1718 with two centuries.
Usman Khawaja says :-
Usman said, “It is a privilege to be the captain of any team, but for me especially being the captain of Sydney might mean a little more.
“I grew up in western Sydney, where the Thunder play at the Sydney Showground Stadium. And although I now live in Queensland.”
Khawaja paid tribute to Ferguson, whose departure from the club was controversial. He would not seek to make significant changes to the Thunder’s game.
“Kal was a great and unique as a team-mate – he will definitely be missed among the group here,” he said. “I being the captain, it’s not about reinventing the wheel.
