After playing a blazing innings against Pakistan, the fans would like to hear the echo of Virat Kohli’s bat once against the Netherlands. Team India will play its second match in Super-12 today against this associate team in Sydney. In this match, Virat Kohli has a great chance to become the king of T20 World Cup. If Kohli scores 73 against Netherlands today, he will become the fastest batsman to score 1000 runs in T20 World Cup history. So far this record is in the name of former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene.

Virat is at number three in the list of highest run scorers in T20 World Cup

Virat Kohli played an unbeaten innings of 82 runs against Pakistan. After this innings, his name has gone up to 927 runs in the T20 World Cup and he is third in the list of highest run-scorers in the T20 World Cup after Mahela Jayawardhan and Chris Gayle. Mahela Jayawardene is the only batsman in this list who has more than 1000 runs to his name. A total of 1016 runs were scored from Mahela’s bat from 2007 to 2014 T20 World Cup.

Mahela Jayawardene scored 1000 runs in 25 innings in the T20 World Cup. While Virat Kohli has scored 927 runs in 20 innings. If Virat Kohli scores 73 runs today, he will become the fastest batsman to score 1000 runs in T20 World Cup. Even if he is not able to do the same against the Netherlands, he will still have some more chances left.

Virat needs just 39 runs to become the second highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup

On the other hand, if Virat Kohli manages to score 39 runs against the Netherlands today, he will become the second highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup, while breaking the record of former West Indies opener Chris Gayle.

Highest run scorer in T20 World Cup-

Mahela Jayawardene – 1016
Chris Gayle – 965
Virat Kohli – 927
Tillakaratne Dilshan – 897
Rohit Sharma – 851
