Virat Kohli ODI career ended as captain, was ahead of legends like Dhoni-Ganguly in this matter

Virat Kohli had earlier left the captaincy of T20 cricket, but he did not make any mention on the decision to leave the captaincy of ODIs. The BCCI announced on Wednesday 8 December that Rohit Sharma will be the new ODI captain of Team India. With this announcement, the ODI career of Virat Kohli as captain has also come to an end.

Virat Kohli’s record as ODI captain

Coming to the ODI career of Virat Kohli as captain, he has won 65 times for Team India in 95 matches, while the team has lost 27 times under his captaincy. Virat Kohli’s win percentage during this period was 68.42, which is many more than former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly.

Ganguly has won 76 matches while captaining Team India in 146 matches, while Dhoni has won 110 matches for India while captaining the maximum 200 matches. The win percentage of both the captains is 53.90 and 59.52 respectively.

Runs of Virat Kohli as ODI Captain

Talking about the batting of Virat Kohli, while being the captain of the Indian ODI team, Kohli has an average of 73.65. He is second in the list of Indian players with the most runs in this format as a captain. Kohli has 5449 runs to his name, while Dhoni leads the list, who scored 6641 runs in ODI cricket while captaining Team India. Kohli has also scored 21 centuries and 27 half-centuries in ODIs while captaining Team India.

Virat Kohli Could not win ICC trophy

India has not won a single ICC trophy under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. India lost to Pakistan in the final of the Champions Trophy in 2017, followed by New Zealand in the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup. At the same time, Team India had to face defeat in the final of the World Test Championship in 2021 and in the recently held T20 World Cup, India was out of the group stage itself.

World Cup hope Rests on Rohit Sharma

Keeping in mind the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma has been given the captaincy of this format. Indian fans will be expected to win this World Cup from him. Rohit has only two years to go, in such a situation, he can make the team according to him.
