The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Sri Lankan captain Wanindu Hasaranga for two matches on Saturday, 24 February. Sri Lanka’s new T20I captain Wanindu Hasaranga on Saturday received punishment for abusing the on-field umpire during the series against Afghanistan. Hasaranga is heard speaking to umpire Linden Hannibal regarding a no-ball call after losing the match against Afghanistan. After this, he expressed his anger against this decision in the press conference also.

Sri Lanka’s T20I captain Wanindu Hasaranga was fined three demerit points and 50 per cent of his match fee for protesting against the umpire’s decision. The latest breach of the ICC Code of Conduct brings Hasaranga’s tally of demerit points to five within the last 24 months, resulting in a two-match ban.

ICC said in a statement :-

“Hasaranga has been found guilty of Article 2.13 under the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to personal misconduct by a player, player support personnel, umpire or match referee during an international match,” the ICC said in a statement. ‘

The ICC also fined Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz 15% of his fee for the same match for disobeying an umpire’s instructions.

Wanindu Hasaranga will not be able to play two T20I matches against Bangladesh :-

Let us tell you that the five demerit points of Hasaranga have been converted into two suspension points. According to the ICC statement, two suspension points are equivalent to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or T20Is. This means that Hasaranga will now miss the first two T20I matches against Bangladesh next month.
