SL vs ZIM: Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe by 8 wickets in the rain-affected third and final ODI. With this victory, Sri Lanka won the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe by 2-0. The first match was lost to rain.

In the third ODI, the match could not start on time due to rain, due to which the match was reduced to 27-27 overs. Batting first, Zimbabwe team could score only 96 runs in 22.5 overs.

In response, Sri Lankan team won the match by scoring 97 runs for two wickets in 16.4 overs.

Wanindu Hasaranga gave the first blow to Zimbabwe :-

The Zimbabwe team, who came to bat first, got its first blow in the ninth over. T Caetano was out after scoring 17 runs in 24 balls. Hasaranga gave Sri Lanka its first success. Hasaranga, who was returning to the team after about 5 months, broke the back of Zimbabwe’s batting by taking seven wickets.

After losing the first wicket on the score of 43, Zimbabwe team lost all its nine wickets within 53 runs. For Zimbabwe, opener J Gambi played the highest innings of 29 runs. Five Zimbabwe batsmen could not even reach double figures.

Despite a bad start, Sri Lanka batted well :-

The Sri Lankan team, which came to chase the target of 97 runs, did not have a good start. The team lost the wicket of Avishka Fernando in the very first over. He could not even open an account. However, after this there was a partnership of 73 runs between Daniel and captain Kusal Mendis. Chevan Daniel was out after scoring 12 runs in 28 balls. Kusal Mendis remained unbeaten after scoring 66 runs in 51 balls with the help of 9 fours and one six. Sadira scored 14 runs in 17 balls.
