The club announced this on Wednesday (24 August). The 24-year-old has represented the Hobart Hurricanes since the start of the competition, playing 56 matches over five seasons.

The T20 World Cup champion scored 865 runs for the storm at a strike rate of 98.18 and also took 41 wickets. Mathews has represented West Indies and Barbados in 133 international matches and sits in the top five of the ICC’s T20I and ODI rankings.

“I’m really looking forward to it. I’m excited to join a new team and wear a red outfit with the Renegades this year,” Matthews said.

“I love the city of Melbourne, it’s probably my favorite city in Australia. The opportunity to come over there and spend a few months, work with a really good coaching staff and be part of a group that has some very special players, There are good incentives for me.”

Matthews has completed a stint with Welsh Fire at The Hundred and will lead Barbados Royals in the inaugural Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) and the 6ixty tournament – starting this week.
