The Perth hopes of hosting the fifth Ashes Test have taken another big hit. After Western Australia, Premier Mark McGowan reiterated his tough stance on quarantine rules and prohibited the wives. And girlfriends of players to travel west.
The 60,000-seat Optus Stadium will host the final of the Ashes from January 14. Earlier this month, Mark McGowan said he was “very confident”. That the Test match would go ahead, in addition to taking place five days. After the end of the SCG Test.
At that stage, it was believed that Mark was considering easing the Covid-19 quarantine rules that players would have to follow up on the Test match, which will be played a few weeks before the WA due to open its borders.

But in a dramatic twist over the past week, there are tricky topics in the origins of the new Omicron version.
On Saturday, WA Cricket chief executive Christina Mathews said the forecast for Perth to host the fifth Test has gone up from 97 percent to 50 percent. Mathews said one of the major constraints was the sheer size of the broadcast team and the additional quarantine difficulty that ensued.
Mark McGowan on Tuesday brushed aside any possibility of players being capable of completing a short quarantine period in exchange for a regular 14-day stint. The same sequence rules apply to any staff member or broadcast employee exposed.
This means all members flying to Perth will be under strict quarantine conditions throughout the Test match – a situation that may not be possible.
“We’ve made very strict rules,” McGowan said. “So we’ve told them, ‘You expect 14 days of quarantine’. And that has to be applied to all the broadcast staff, the cricket staff.
“They can’t just bring in wives and girlfriends – as we put in for the AFL. It’s up to them whether or not they want to follow those rules.”
The MCG is at the forefront of the hospitality of the fifth Test – possibly in the light – if Perth is relegated. But the SCG is more prepared to host the Test if required.
NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said: “We have told Cricket Australia that we are here to cooperate if they require it.”

“I would agree to see Perth host a Test match. There that community has had to live behind a very closed perimeter for a long time. So they deserve some great sporting stuff.”
“But if the West Australian Government does not want this to happen, NSW is ready to cooperate with Cricket Australia.”
