Ganguly Revealed that we had Requested Virat not to step down as T20 Captain but he did not want to Continue in this Position

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly told PTI, ‘We had requested Virat not to step down as T20 captain but he did not want to continue in this post. So the selectors felt that they could not have two white-ball captains in the white-ball format. This would have made the captaincy too much. He further said that Kohli talked about in this regard and he has accepted this decision.

Ganguly said that the selectors felt that the white-ball format would confuse multiple captains. So the Chetan Sharma-led committee suggested that it would be better to have only one captain and thus came to the conclusion that Rohit will be the captain of the ODI team. And Virat should captain test cricket.

Rohit becomes captain of ODI team

Rohit made the captain of the permanent one-day team. How will Rohit do as an ODI captain? To this Ganguly said, ‘Prediction is a difficult task. I wish him all the best and hope he does a good job. Ganguly said that it has been kept in mind that Kohli’s winning record as ODI captain in 95 matches is more than 70 percent. In all the matches he has captained. He was very good, but there cannot be two captains in white ball cricket.

Virat Kohli did not win the ICC trophy

Team India’s record under the leadership of Virat Kohli has been excellent. Under Kohli’s captaincy, India has played 95 ODIs, in which the team won 65 and lost in 27. One match tied and 2 matches did not yield any result, but he could not win any ICC trophy for Team India under his captaincy. They had to face defeat against Pakistan in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy. At the same time, in the T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistan defeated his captaincy team India by 10 wickets.
