A woman who took care of the brother of former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been arrested by the Gurgaon Police for allegedly trying to extort money from his mother by threatening to implicate him in a false case.

Yuvraj Singh’s mother Shabnam Singh filed a complaint

As per the complaint lodged by Yuvraj Singh’s mother Shabnam Singh, the family hired Hema Kaushik in 2022 to take care of Yuvraj Singh’s brother Zorawar Singh. Zorawar was suffering from depression for the past several years.

However, the police complaint states that the woman was sacked only after 20 days for “not being professional”. In May, Hema Kaushik started sending WhatsApp messages to Yuvraj’s mother. Kaushik threatened to implicate Yuvraj’s mother in a false case and defame the family and demanded Rs 40 lakh from her.

On July 19, she (Shabnam) received a message from the accused woman on WhatsApp

Yuvraj Singh’s mother alleged that on July 19, she received a message on WhatsApp from the accused woman. That she would file a case against him on July 23, after which her entire family would be brought into disrepute. On this, the complainant demanded some time from the woman. On Monday, there was talk of giving five lakh rupees, and on Tuesday. The woman reached KK Mega Mall in Gurugram to collect the money, where the police caught her red-handed.

Acting on the complaint, the Gurugram police laid a trap and arrested the accused while taking Rs 5 lakh from Yuvraj Singh’s mother. DCP (East) Nitish Aggarwal said, “We are questioning the accused woman.”
