WPL 2024, Mumbai Indians qualify for playoffs: Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians (MI) has become the first team to reach the playoffs of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Last year’s champions MI clinched the playoff ticket by defeating Gujarat Giants on Saturday, March 9 evening.

Thanks to Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai achieved the biggest run chase in WPL history:-

Batting first in this match, Gujarat had set a target of 191 runs for Mumbai to win. On the strength of Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy innings, MI managed to achieve this target with 1 ball and 7 wickets remaining. With this, Mumbai also created history by chasing the biggest target in the history of WPL. Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten on 95 runs in 48 balls with 10 fours and 5 skyscraper sixes. He was awarded the Player of the Match award for this innings.

With this victory of Mumbai Indians, the journey of Gujarat Giants (GG) in WPL 2024 has ended here. GG has become the first team to be eliminated from the playoff race.

Mumbai Indians have won 5 out of 7 matches so far in WPL 2024 and the team is at the first position in the table with 10 points. This is Gujarat Giants’ 5th defeat in their 6 matches. GG is at the bottom 5th position in the points table with 2 points.

Whereas Delhi Capitals is at second position with 8 points, RCB is at third position with 6 points and UP Warriors is at fourth position with the same number of points.

Battle between 3 teams for two spots :-

Now two spots of the playoffs are vacant and now there is a fight between Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriors for these two spots. If last season’s runner-up Delhi wins even one of its remaining two matches, it will reach the playoffs. Whereas RCB will have to win both its next matches.

UP’s path to the playoffs is a bit difficult, the team will have to win both its remaining matches and also pray for the defeat of RCB because their fate is no longer in their hands.
